October Scholarships Spotlight

Presidential Scholars for Career and Technical Education Program 
The Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and honors high school seniors who have demonstrated high achievement academically or in the arts.  If you are a current Senior with a GPA of 3.85 or above and have an ACT score of 30 or more and are interested in being nominated, please visit the Student Center. Nomination Applications are due to Dr. Cheeks by October 2, 2023.  All nominations must be postmarked on or before October 10, 2023.  

AES Scholarship
Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post-secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. How to Apply: Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? What relationships or accomplishments will be important on this journey? Amount of award: $500.00 Deadline for entry: October 8, 2024. Submit an essay to AES Scholarship.

Kansas Buffalo Association Scholarship
The Kansas Buffalo Association is offering a $1000 scholarship to a high school senior or first-year college freshman who is involved in raising bison and/or is planning to pursue a career in a field related to agriculture. The KBA invites interested applicants to complete an application, provide one letter of reference and submit a 500-word essay outlining their relationship/interest in bison and why they should receive the scholarship. KBA members may act as sponsors to qualify family, friends, or a member of a local school or county related organization (FFA, 4H, etc.) for this scholarship. Applications and supporting materials are due by October 13, 2023. The scholarship will be awarded at the 28th Kansas Buffalo Association Sale in Salina, Kan., on December 2, 2023. Either the recipient or his/her designate must be present to accept the scholarship and have a picture taken with representatives from the sponsoring organizations. WSU - Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE)
The WSU College of Engineering will host the annual Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering (WISE) Competition on Friday, November 22, 2024. At the WISE competition, 10 seniors will be awarded $28,000 each to study engineering at WSU. To compete in WISE, high school seniors must be admitted to WSU by October 15, 2024, complete the WISE application by November 10, 2024, declare a major in engineering, and meet ONE of the following: GPA of 3.5 (unweighted), minimum 27 ACT composite score, OR top 10% class ranking. Heisman High School Scholarship
The Heisman High School Scholarship continues the legacy of the Wendy’s® High School Heisman® Scholarship, a program created in 1994 by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas in partnership with The Heisman Trophy Trust. The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. By inviting students from schools across the country to share their stories of leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents not only to advance their own futures but to improve the communities and world around them.  Visit Heisman High School Scholarship to apply.  Deadline: October 17, 2023.

Dane G. Hansen Career & Technical Education Scholarship
Applicants for the Dane G. Hansen Career and Technical Education Scholarship must submit to the Hansen Foundation a completed application form and three personal letters of reference postmarked no later than October 18, 2024. Students can download the form online at Dane Hansen Foundation. Three letters of reference are due in the Foundation office by October 18, 2024. It is the student’s responsibility to see that reference letters are mailed to the Hansen Foundation.  One letter of reference must be submitted by either your high school counselor or principal. Recipients must enroll as full-time student in any career and technical education program in any Kansas School, as long as it does not lead to a four-year degree. 100 scholarships of $4,000 each are available to encourage students who seek competence through career and technical education.

 DAR Good Citizens & Scholarship Program
The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students. United States citizenship is not required. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of: Dependability: truthfulness, loyalty, punctuality and being worthy of trust Service: cooperation, courtesy, and contributing to the welfare of others Leadership: personality, self-control, ability to assume responsibility, ability to inspire others, and a decision-maker Patriotism: devotion to and support of one’s country, supporting service members and veterans, working for causes. that make one’s community stronger, and appreciating the cultural and historic importance of America’s unique population. Only one student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen. Each school’s DAR Good Citizen receives a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card. This student is eligible, if he/she wishes, to enter the DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest. The DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest consists of two parts. Part I consists of the student describing how they have manifested the qualities of a good citizen. This part may be completed at home and is to be submitted together with a grade transcript and two letters of recommendation. Part II is a timed essay to be administered under the supervision of a faculty or DAR member. It must be completed at one sitting, within a two-hour time limit, and without assistance, using only a dictionary. Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges. Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Competition
Voice of Democracy 2024-25 Theme "Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?" patriotic audio essay competition with a grand prize: $35,000 scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12 who submit their original 3-5 minutes' essay on an audio CD or flash drive by October 31, 2024. For more information, students may visit VFW or pick up an application with rules and regulations in the Student Center.

Ivy Panda Video Contest Scholarship
Each year IvyPanda awards creative and talented in movie making students with scholarships $1500 total. Scholarships are given to two winners: the winner receives a $1,000 scholarship; the runner-up prize is $500.  Deadline:  October 31, 2024

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduating high school senior who plans to enroll full-time in the fall.
  • Must have a cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have taken the ACT or SAT and submit the score to apply.
  • Must be a Kansas resident and qualify for in-state tuition.
  • Demonstrate financial need (Pell-eligible).
  • Will attend either Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Kansas State, or Wichita State Universities.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident.

*Applications are accepted October 1 through December 1. Must submit FAFSA estimator results with application.
