3rd grade learns recorders
Students in third grade start learning the recorder instrument and then continue in the fourth grade. First, the students learn and practice reading music. They often sing the words or note names to the songs before playing in order to get the tune and rhythm in their head. They then learn and memorize the fingering position for each note used in a song. They begin with 3 notes and gradually introduce a new fingering at a time. After learning all this, they use the record. There are so many variables and levels of learning with playing the recorder and reading the music.
